Dr. Royston Jones, VP European Operations and Global CTO, Altair

Dr Royston Jones, joined Altair UK in 1998 as Managing Director and after ten years was appointed as VP European Operations and Global CTO of Altair ProductDesign, Altair’s consultancy business.

Dr Jones received a BSc., MSc. and PhD in Civil Engineering at University College Swansea.  For over twenty five years, Dr Jones, has been involved in the application of CAE methods to produced design innovation.  He has published over forty technical papers.  Dr Jones is a Visiting Professor in Structural Optimization at both the Universities of Swansea & Leeds and in 1996 was directly elected to Fellow at both the Institution of Civil (FICE) and Mechanical (FIMechE) Engineers.





Peter Rawlinson, Chief Technology Officer and VP of Lucid


Peter Rawlinson is the Chief Technology Officer and VP of Lucid. He leads the outstanding team developing Lucid’s premium electric vehicle. Peter has over 30 years of vehicle engineering experience and is best known for developing the Tesla Model S.

Formerly Vice President of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla and Chief Engineer of the Model S, Peter led the engineering of the Model S from clean-sheet to production readiness while simultaneously building a world class engineering team. Peter conceived of and implemented an innovative product development methodology enabling this process to occur in just three years. As a hands-on engineer, he also holds a significant proportion of the Model S vehicle patents.

Prior to Tesla, Peter was Head of Vehicle Engineering at Corus Automotive, Chief Engineer at Lotus Cars, and Principal Engineer at Jaguar Cars. In these roles, Peter developed key innovations for Alcoa, Aston Martin, BMW, Daimler, Ford, GM, Audi, Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lockheed Martin, and Prodrive.

Peter holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.






James Bishop, Head of Virtual Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover

James Bishop is Head of the Virtual Engineering Hub at Jaguar Land Rover where he leads a team driving the business forward in it development of new Virtual Methods and Processes to increase productivity, promote innovation and reduce time to market.
James has worked at JLR for over 20 years working in the fields of Aerodynamics, Thermal Management and Powertrain NVH within which he has always pushed the boundaries on use of Virtual Tools in all domains.

James graduated from Bristol University with a B.Eng in Aeronautical Engineering and has a M.Sc in Aerodynamics from Cranfield University



Iain Percy, Team Manager & Tactician, Artemis

Iain Percy OBE, a double Olympic and multiple world champion, is one of the most talented and successful sailors in the world. Iain has a remarkable Olympic pedigree, winning gold in the Finn class at the Sydney Olympics; before teaming up with lifelong friend Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson to win gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and silver at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Iain had his first taste of America’s Cup action in 2005 as helmsman for +39 Challenge, and was part of Great Britain’s America’s Cup challenge, Team Origin. He joined Artemis Racing at the end of 2012 as tactician, following the London Olympics. After showing inspirational leadership qualities during the difficult final few months of the 34th America’s Cup campaign, he was appointed Team Manager in October 2013. Iain is now responsible for leading Artemis Racing’s challenge for the 35th America’s Cup.






Matt Collins, Head of Airframe Authority for Wing, Airbus


Matt has been involved in the most of the Airbus aircraft developments on the wing over the last 25 years. As Head of Airframe Authority for Wing, Matt is responsible for ensuring the delegation of technical authority within Airbus wing organisation, the wing means of compliance and final signature on the wing certification documentation.


Andrea Merulla, CAE Manager, Ferrari

After his graduating from University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Andrea won an international fellowship sponsored by Ferrari S.p.a. in ‘’Car Weight Reduction’’ where he continued the activities started during the thesis. In Ferrari S.p.A. since the 2010 as CAD/CAE analyst within the Body in White Department, Andrea focuses on the development of lightweight and cost-effective solutions including the development of Ferrari’s next generation architecture.


Anthony Poncet, Incubator powertrain Manager, Renault Trucks

Anthony is the Manager of Renault Trucks’ (part of Volvo Trucks) Powertrain Incubator, leading projects that capitalise on the application of new design and manufacturing techniques on the company’s powertrain systems. Prior to this, Anthony held several roles at Renault Trucks including Project Leader researching innovative uses of additive manufacturing throughout the powertrain department, and Reliability Manager, a position Anthony held for 10 years. Anthony holds a Ph.D. in Mechanics and Reliability from the Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne.


Dr Akin Keskin, Chief of Virtual Engine Design Systems, Rolls- Royce

Akin Keskin has studied Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Technical University of Berlin/Germany and received a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with the focus on Process Automation and Multi-Disciplinary Optimization from the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus/Germany. He was lecturer at Berlin and Cottbus Universities in high speed aerodynamics and application of numerical optimization methods to engineering problems. He joined Rolls-Royce in 2001, worked in different departments at different sites and actively supported R&T and product development projects. In January 2015 Akin has been appointed as an Engineering Associated Fellow in Design Systems and is currently running a global team which develops automated design systems aiming to help the engineering community in faster solution finding and decision making by applying modern automation and optimization techniques. Akin is active member of the ASME and AIAA, has more than 30+ publications in Journals and Conference Proceedings and is invited speaker in many national and international conferences/workshops.



lars fredriksson, Business VP - Simulation Driven Innovation, Altair Engineering GmbH


Dr. Lars Fredriksson has been with Altair since 1996 and today holds the position of Business VP - Simulation Driven Innovation. He is currently located in Altair's German Headquater in Böblingen. Prior to his current position, he held several positions at Altair in Germany and Sweden, among those Director ProductDesign and Director Business Development Europe. He studied Mechanical Engineering and received his M.Sc. (Civilingenjör) from Linköping University in 1989, and his Ph.D. (Teknologie Doktor) in the area of Mechanical Engineering, Solid Mechanics also from Linköping University in 1996.




Jeff Brennan, Chief Marketing Officer, Altair

As Chief Marketing Officer, Brennan has responsibility for corporate, business unit marketing, communications, public relations and web marketing. In his dual role as Senior Vice President, Global Markets, he also has responsibility for industry-focused business development and strategy in major market segment such as Automotive, Aerospace and Academia. He also oversees product training and documentation. He has a strong passion for Altair and is focused on growing the business while helping to maintain the unique Altair culture.

Since joining Altair in 1992 as an engineering consultant, he has served a variety of technical and business roles, including Program Manager for Altair’s optimization products, Director of Sales and Marketing, and Vice President of the HyperWorks business unit from 2001-2009. He was responsible for the creation of the OptiStruct software at Altair and managed the product during its early years. His technical background includes specialties in biomechanics and optimization, receiving his engineering education at the University of Notre Dame, Northwestern University and the University of Michigan.
