DoE & Optimization in Automotive MBS Simulation Tasks

An automated process has been developed by Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik (MSF) and has since helped to accelerate specific design challenges in MBS-simulation. Further on Altair’s HyperStudy was implemented in order to use predefined DoE schemes and algorithms for numerical optimization.

The presented study gives a brief overview of the developed process, and shows the successful implementation of Altair’s HyperStudy in the field of automotive MBS-simulation.

The presented area of application is the analysis and design of vehicle engine mount systems. The implementation of DoE and numerical optimization allows for intense investigations concerning the influence of engine mount properties (e.g. position, stiffness and loss angle) on the powertrain’s rigid body modes and the purity of modal kinetic energies.
