Water wave impact on rigid walls

etermining the contact forces of water waves against a solid structure during an impact is highly important when designing offshore structures. The contact forces from a wave impact occur only over a short period of time and over a local domain. For this reason these contact forces are difficult to reproduce, both in a CFD simulation and in experiments.

We will simulate the water wave impact on solid structures using the SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) method, which is implemented in Altair Radioss. At first, we briefly explain the theory behind water wave impacts. Next, the theory will be tested by comparing it to simulation results of several load cases.
